C. Hamilton "Hank" Jarrett is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, has lived in Greensboro, and is now living in Raleigh. He has been in private law practice continuously since graduation from law school in 1983. Before attending law school, he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, and was employed in the practice of Civil Engineering with extensive involvement in public works projects, including solid waste and wastewater management, utility line and highway construction, and planning and zoning administration. His law practice concentrates on government and construction contract and surety law, as well as bankruptcy law relating to the construction industry.

EDUCATION

Mr. Jarrett graduated from Clemson University in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He earned a Juris Doctor, cum laude, in 1983 from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University. While at Mercer, he was a staff member on the Mercer Law Review (1981-1982) and served as its Lead Articles II Editor (1982-1983).

EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE

From 1977 through 1980, Hank was employed in the practice of Civil Engineering with extensive involvement in public works projects, including wastewater treatment plant, utility line and highway construction. Upon graduation from law school in 1983, he practiced law with Nichols, Caffrey, Hill, Evans & Murrell, a private law firm in Greensboro, North Carolina. There he gained significant experience in the fields of construction, products liability and bankruptcy law. He left that firm in 1991 to practice with the firm of Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, where he maintained a concentration in construction and surety law, and construction and surety related bankruptcy law. In 1997, he left that firm to start the firm of Ellzey & Brooks, PLLC and was resident in the firm's Raleigh, North Carolina office. Mr. Jarrett stayed with that firm as a member until he left to become a member of Conner Gwyn Schenck, PLLC in 2001, where he is resident in this firm's Raleigh, North Carolina office. Hank's practice remains concentrated in the areas of government and construction contract and surety law, including construction and surety bankruptcy issues. 

COURT ADMISSIONS

Mr. Jarrett has been admitted to the North Carolina State Bar continuously since 1983. He is admitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of North Carolina.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES AND AFFILIATIONS

He is a member of the American Bar Association and the ABA Forum on the Construction Industry, and the Surety and Fidelity Subcommittee. He also is a member of the Construction Section of the North Carolina Bar Association, where he has served on the Section Counsel. He is also a member of the Association of General Contractors serving on the Surety Bonding Committee, and the NC Bar Association - Construction Section/CAGC Joint Committee and various sub-committees on construction related legislation.
